Do You Like My Blog?

Teralyn Pilgrim over at A Writer's Journey is putting on a blogfest today called Critique My Blog. Click on the link to see her blog or the launch page.

So, do you like my blog? I'd love to know what you think.

Here are some of the things Teralyn posted as far as doing your critique:
  1. Appearance: Does it appeal to you? Is it too busy, or too plain?
  2. Layout: Is it difficult to navigate? Is it cluttered, or sparse?
  3. Frequency: Does the blogger post too often? Not often enough?
  4. Content: Are the posts interesting? Unique? Are they focused, or all over the place?
  5. Quality: Are the individual posts too long, too short, too sloppy, or too generic?

Jump in! Whether you are participating in the blog hop or not, I'd appreciate your thoughts. Take a look and leave a comment on this post. Thanks!

Good luck with the A to Z Challenge. I look forward to your posts.

First impressions.
Try customizing your site with a background that is more 'you'.

I avoid the ads on my site but that is personal preference.

Not too busy. Easy to nav.

Thanks to you both. Huntress, do you have any tips on where to find some interesting backgrounds? Running on a tight budget here...

I think you have interesting posts. :) But I agree the background could be more interesting.

I love your photography. I don't think you should put yourself down about it. Have the confidence to be proud of it. Your writing is easy to read and I like the tone, it's gentle yet persuasive.

Be careful the advertising doesn't detract from the message you want to put across. I prefer the between posts adverts to the in the column ones.

I really like how you use captions on your pictures in your posts.

I enjoy reading your blog.

I'm a terrible judge of other people's blog appearances. I like them when they suit the tone of the blogger's posts.

I like the colors of your blog, but the first thing I noticed were the ads on the side. They are a distraction. Also, make sure the most important things to YOU are at the top of your blog. And, I don't like the word verification ... but that's because it slows me down with comments and I can't seem to spell the darn words right. :)

I would put the followers button further up, the ads are a little distracting and the word verification is just too time consuming. Like the content though :)

Thanks for taking the time to comment, everyone. I have a lot to chew on!

Can anyone tell me how to modify the verification settings? I've tried with no success.

Agree about the background - and making the sidebar a different color. Your tabbed pages are easy to find though! Sometimes those get lost.

Verification settings: "Settings > Show word verification for comments?" Hope that helps!

I'd also recommend less of a dark color for the main as white text is always harder to read!

I like the title of your blog and the background.

You might want to consider moving AI banner down and moving join this site up. I would also like to see a bio and a possibly a picture (I know you have a about me page, but I rarely click on those unless the writer has provided me with a teaser on the home page). I’m also not the best photographer but I enjoy snapping photos (I liked your photos by the way).

At first glance I can’t tell what your blog is about (this might turn some people off) so you might consider putting the purpose of your blog in your header or in your bio (reflections on things fantastic isn’t specific enough for me). I wouldn’t change your header title just perhaps add a line under the title that says what your blog is about.

When I read “slow down...observe” it made me think of writing small stones and I thought perhaps you were a member. I like that you have a list of popular posts and a search feature right at the top (I’m debating whether or not to add a search feature to my blog).

Thanks for participating in my blogfest!

1. I think I saw this exact format in one of the other participants. Not only could you do something original, but you could do something that looks better.

2. I love the photography and wish there was more of it.

3. I think the ad disclaimer and Privacy Policy are unnecessary. If you insist on having them, perhaps you could make them less conspicuous since there's more important things you can post in that space.

4. What's your blog about? The posts I've scrolled through seem to be about your kids. Are you writing about family, or writing?

I hope some of that was helpful!

Your blog's appearance makes me want to eat chocolate. Or mud cake. Or drink a Spanish chilli hot chocolate. Mmmm. Or all of the above. ;)

There's something very charming about the first part of your 'blurb' up there - "remembers he is dust". Love those words.

Being unfamiliar with your blog, I can't really say too much about the content of your posts, but I will say I like the way you present your photographs, and I like the 'trimmed' length of your written posts.
