L is for Lilacs

is for Lilacs.

This spring we've been the glad recipients of blooming lilac bushes. My wife and I were trying to decide whether it's been four or five years since we first planted our lilacs, but either way it's exciting to finally have flowers.

We dug a few plants from my in-law's garden, drove them to our place, and planted them immediately. Of course we wanted them to bloom right away, but we knew it may be at least the next spring before that happened. It was a bummer that next year when all we got was more green and no purple.

Yet we continued to care for them each year, and last fall I cut them back pretty hard.

Early this spring I saw the flowers and I was beside myself until I could tell my wife. The other day I even cut some for her to put on our table - the fragrance, that to us says spring - filled our living room.

Sometimes I wish spring was the only season.

I LOVE spring and lilacs, but if it was the only season would we even appreciate it? I think its partly because the lilacs bloom so briefly that we savor them. Great blog!

I may not be able to fully appreciate the outdoors this side of eternity because my proclivity towards sunburns and allergies. But your lilacs are lovely nonetheless! It is always exciting for flowers to bloom years after they were planted.

Lilacs are gorgeous but can be a bit of work. But don't we love Spring. It's actually autumn here which is like spring, lol.
